For one reason or another, I have not posted on here for too long. So, I think you deserve an update.
I have now lost 99 pounds, and can fit into a SMALL shirt, like the one in the picture.
I have begun p90x again and am excited to see that most of the exercises can be done at a higher level then when I had done the whole program before. I guess 100 pounds makes a difference or something. ;-)
More to come real soon. This time much sooner than before.

A game changer
I visited my doctor the other day to check on my high cholesterol now that I am taking shape for life and he predicted that I had lowered it about 60 to 70 points from last year. He was close...it was more than 80!
80 points down with NO medication. "Man, o' Manischewitz!" as Tony would say.

5k? No way!
It was not pretty...as you can see, but I did it. According to my dreadmill, I walked (only 5 times for about a min each) and ran 3.1 miles in just under 34 mins!
Time to start taking the time down... Well... One step at a time.
Until next time.

Tunes to tone
Thanks for all of our readers who have been commenting. It is very encouraging!
Here is a question for you. What is your favorite workout song? For me, nothing beats the ridiculous Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. I know... but I love it.
What song is it for you?

Last one for today
Did the 2 mile run in the real world. Feels great!
By the way, 2 new goals have arisen.
1- to run a 5k
2- to lose 100 pounds
Which to you think I will do first?

I know it has been a little while since my last post, but I wanted to wait to be able to say this...
As of today I have lost 1/3 of my starting weight! It feels great and the finish line is very close now. These last few pounds have definitely gone off slower, but they DO keep going. Take Shape for Life is amazing!
I have been working out every day now, with some type of strength training and treadmill running on alternating days. I even threw in an Insanity workout with my friend! That was tough, but I did it, and it felt good.
Running has been fun... Yep fun. I never thought that I would say that, but it has. I have even mapped out a course for running in my neighborhood. I am going to try it out soon and let you know how it goes.
Until next time friends,
Seth

Make it a double!
2 miles nonstop at an even faster pace! Not saying it was easy, but I did it. I set a goal and a time to do it by and I did it.
Thanks TSFL!

Mile smile
I am not quite at the 90 pound mark yet, but I wanted to share a couple of other goals I never thought I would get to.
First, I can do a pull up. In fact I can do a couple of pull ups. It turns out when you weight less you don't have to pull as much up to the bar... Science.
Secondly, I ran a mile and a half. I don't mean that I went a mile and a half. I mean that I ran it. I have never done this in my entire life. Even when I was a kid and did the physical fitness challenge with my friends, I could not do that. Very cool.
Until next time,
Seth

Let's dish
The next great meal from Sandy's Kitchen. Grilled Buffalo chicken and ranch broccoli cole slaw. Quick, easy, and one of my favorites. It tasted like the many wings of old without the calories. Best of both worlds!

New present and a new goal
Check out my new hammock. Katie got it for me for Father's Day and I love it. As I was dozing in my new favorite spot, I realized that it was time for a new goal. My next step is to lose 1/3 of my starting weight. Since I started at 270, that would be 90 pounds. I am getting close... I'll let you all know when I get there.
What is YOUR next goal?

1 is a good start
Sorry I have not posted in a while. The end of school takes up some time. However, I could not pass up reporting on this milestone.
My weight now starts with a 1! 199 down from 270! That sounds more like a sale on tvs than a person's weight, doesn't it?
Thanks for all of your support out there and keep up YOUR good work.
On to the next goal...

Now leaving Obese City!
Although, I am not done yet... Today I met one of my "impossible" goals.
When I started this journey I was 270 with a BMI of 39, right at the top of the obese range and about to be dangerous. Today I am 202 with a BMI of 29! The word overweight never sounded so good. Ha!
Bye bye Obese City!

A new challenge
Don't get too concerned, it's a good challenge. Katie and I have been losing like winners, but that means our clothes don't fit well. Poor us, huh? Ha! Now, though, we have a new problem. Our rings don't fit. You heard that right...our rings that we wore almost a decade ago don't fit!
Have you noticed changes on your journey? Post below. We'd love to hear from you!

Weight for it...
Today marks 60 pounds! It is ridiculous how much that is in barbell plates...but it feels so good not to be stuck to me anymore.

Pounds that astound!
As of today, Katie and I have lost a combined total weight of 100 pounds!
I thought it might be fun to see what it looks like. Wow, right?

Sports and such
Today a friend of mine gave us a basketball hoop. Maddie (our oldest) and I even got to play a little one on one. This weekend has been like a sports explosion and I loved every minute of it. From backyard volleyball to ultimate frisbee, we were outside and living.
I never felt like the old Seth that needed to rest a lot and was always one step behind. Sure, I am not the best athlete, but I love sports and now I can give them my best.

Fresh from the oven
Tonight Katie made zucchini lasagna from the Sandy's Kitchen blog. It was fantastic and might have to find a place on our permanent menu EVEN when we complete this phase of the weight loss journey. Delicious!

Dreadmill
Tonight I decided to give the treadmill a go. Before I continue on, you have to understand my aversion to the "dreadmill." I always want to get on and run like they do in commercials or like friends of mine who run for fun or are training for marathons. You know who you are... But I am usually cramping up, complaining, and barely walking for about 10 minutes or so.
Maybe it is not hauling 50 extra pounds around or the extra energy I seem to have lately or just my new mindset, but tonight was very different. I felt good, I ran more and at a faster speed than I ever have and I ENJOYED it!
I love this...
Until next time. Thanks for reading.

Sandy's Kitchen
When I decided to go on this TSfL journey, one of the first things I realized was that the one Lean and Green meal each day was going to be important. If its a bust, it can cause your hungry eyes to want to wander to your old food friends and cheat.
Katie and I have found a few things that we enjoy and actually look forward to. One of those things is ... bear with me here... cauliflower pizza crust. Yeah, I know what you are thinking... and maybe some of you are like me, and actually like cauliflower in its raw form, but it is not for everybody. Sandy, over at Sandy's Kitchen, has turned this underrated plant into something simply astounding.
Don't believe me? Check out her site for this and other great recipes at Sandy's Kitchen. (The link is also at the top of this page right next to the link to Katie's ordering site.)
Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the ones we made, but here is one from her site. I will be sure to upload one the next time we make it.

Try some of your own and tell us what is your favorite in the comments below.
Happy cooking!

Fifty frisbee
Today when I got home from school, my girls had a gift waiting for me with a card. To be fair, they will use any opportunity to celebrate something, but I loved it. The had picked out a sweet frisbee with Marvel characters on it (both great loves of mine). I have cool kids.
The Big 5-0!
A little hard to see there between my toes... But I have reached 50 pounds of total weight! Happy day. Thanks Take Shape for Life!

Bow ties are cool
Just to clarify something-
As of today, I have lost 27 pounds on TSfL, but I actually started cutting back on calories a few weeks prior as well. I had lost 22 at that point. So when I say "total weight loss" I am adding in that weight too.
Ok. Now, I know it is a bit corny, but I have wanted a bow tie for a while now, however, felt that I was too big to pull one off. So, when I lost 40 total pounds, I decided to get one. Here is a picture. Do I look like the Doctor?
